For your interview: ask how they handled replica lag for reads straight after writes.

Example Career1 interview with a fictional candidate for a Senior Backend Engineer role. Career1 at 02:06: Your resume says you scaled the order service at Brightcart. What broke first when traffic doubled? Jordan at 02:30: The Postgres connection pool. Every request opened its own connection, so at peak we hit the limit and requests queued. We put PgBouncer in front and moved reads to a replica. Career1 at 03:09: Why PgBouncer, rather than just raising max_connections? Jordan at 03:27: Each Postgres connection is a separate process with its own memory. Raising the limit would have swapped queueing for memory pressure on the primary. Pooling kept it to about forty real connections. Career1 at 04:10: Who owned the incident when the pool saturated? Jordan at 04:25: I did. I was on call, I wrote the postmortem, and I added the pool-saturation alert the team still uses. Scorecard: System design 86, Named the bottleneck and two fixes, in order. Depth under follow-up 92, Defended the choice with the actual trade-off. Ownership 84, On call, wrote the postmortem, shipped the alert. Overall 87, hire recommended.

The follow-up finds out.

Career1 does not watch screens or claim to detect a second device. It does what a good interviewer does: asks how and why, digs into the project they named, and pushes when an answer sounds polished but thin.

A rehearsed answer rarely survives the second question, and the recording is there for your team to watch if the score surprises you.

From posted role
to shortlist.

Everything between an application arriving and a ranked shortlist happens without anyone on your team in the middle.

  1. You post the role

A title and a few notes. Career1 drafts the description, requirements and skills, and your careers page lists it straight away.

  2. Every applicant is interviewed

By voice, whenever suits them, with no scheduling. Questions come from their resume and your role, and Career1 follows up when an answer is thin.

What it judges.
What it never measures.

Judged

  • What they said, against the role you posted
  • Whether their resume holds up under questioning
  • Every score cites the words it came from

Never measured

  • Faces, expressions or eye movement
  • Tone of voice or accent
  • Their room, background or camera

Straight answers

All questions
How long is the interview, and is anyone from my team on it?

About eight minutes, hard capped at ten, and nobody from your team is on the call. The AI interviewer asks the questions, adapts to the answers and closes the conversation itself. You read the result afterwards, which is the whole point: screening two hundred applications properly is about thirteen hours that no team actually spends.

Does Career1 integrate with my ATS?

Not at the time of writing. Career1 does not sync with any ATS. Teams running both send applicants for a role to their Career1 job page, where applying starts the interview, then move the shortlisted people into the ATS by hand. If your volume would make that copying painful, that is a real cost to weigh before you start.

Can I take the interview in a language other than English?

Not yet. The interviewer speaks English, and will switch to simpler English if you ask, but there is no other language today and that is a real limit rather than a preference. If English is not your first language, practise first: the rehearsal is free, private, and asks the same kind of questions.

How new is Career1?

New. The product runs end to end, the free tools and interview guides are live, and the AI interview works, but no company is hiring through Career1 yet and the job board is empty. We would rather say that plainly than imply a busy marketplace. It is also why vetting is free for candidates and the free plan needs no card.

Can I see how it works without signing up?

Yes, three ways. Read a complete sample report for a fictional applicant. Use the free tools with no account, such as the ATS resume checker. Or read the interview questions hub, which sets out what gets asked and what a strong answer shows.
