# Heard nothing after an AI interview? Few platforms publish timelines; Mercor says it usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. Check your interview was submitted, follow up once with the recruiter after about a week, and keep applying meanwhile. ## Is it normal to hear nothing after an AI interview? Yes, and it is worth understanding why, because it changes what you do next. The forum version of this question usually ends with "please tell me I'm not insane". You are not. An AI interview feels like the end of a process, and for the platform it is: its job finishes when your report reaches the hiring team. What happens after that is up to people at the employer, working at their own pace. The platforms say this themselves. Sapia.ai's [candidate explainer](https://sapia.ai/candidate-explainer/) says that after the chat interview "it's up to the recruitment team at your prospective employer to get in touch with you", and that questions about your application's progress "should be addressed to your prospective employer". Karat's [candidate page](https://karat.com/candidate-experience/) says it sends the recruiter "the video recording of the interview, including a summary", and "The recruiter will use that to decide what the next steps in the hiring process are and will contact you." HireVue's [candidate FAQ](https://www.hirevue.com/candidates/faq) describes its interviews as "first steps in the overall interviewing process". So an AI interview does not make hiring faster at the step you are waiting on. It makes the first round faster for the employer. The decision, and the reply, still wait for a person. Career1 is not affiliated with any company named here. ## How long does it take to hear back after an AI interview? Most platforms do not publish a timeline, because they do not control one. A certification is not a job offer: micro1 says certified people get invitations as roles appear, and can apply to open roles directly. Where nobody publishes a number, do not borrow one. Any "average time to hear back after an AI interview" you read without a source is a guess. ## What does the silence usually mean? There is no way to know from the outside, and nobody publishes reliable numbers on it. What you can know is the list of ordinary reasons, none of which is "the AI rejected me and nobody noticed": - **Nobody has reached your report yet.** The team is still collecting interviews, or is busy with other work. Hiring is rarely anyone's only job. - **You are further down a ranked list.** People read shortlists from the top and stop when they have enough candidates for the next round. You may be read later, or not at all, if the round fills. - **The role changed.** It was paused, filled internally, or cancelled. Candidates are often the last to hear. - **You were not selected, and nobody told you.** Some employers do not send rejections. It is poor practice, and common enough that silence should not stop you applying elsewhere. - **Your interview did not go through.** A dropped connection or an unsubmitted step can leave an application incomplete on your side while you wait for a reply that cannot come. Only the last one is in your hands, so check it first. And a slow reply is not a verdict on your interview. HireVue's FAQ is explicit that its assessments help recruiters "make the first cut" before "person-to-person interviews"; the people making that cut decide the timing, not the model. ## First, check that your AI interview was actually submitted Before you write to anyone, make sure there is something for them to review. - **Mercor:** the Applications section of your dashboard "displays each application's pending steps and indicates whether it is 'Ready to submit' or 'Submitted'", according to its help page. An application still marked ready to submit has not been sent. - **micro1:** certified candidates can "track the status of all your applications through the Talent Dashboard", according to its [certification page](https://library.micro1.ai/getting-started/getting-certified). - **Sapia.ai:** when you start, Sapia emails a link from notification@sapia.ai with "Online Interview Started" in the subject, which takes you back to your saved answers. If you can reopen it and continue, you have not finished. - **HireVue:** if you lost connection, its FAQ says you can "pick up where you left off with the same link you used to begin the interview previously." - **Career1:** your dashboard shows the application's stage. "Interview ready" means the interview has not been taken; "In review" means it has, and the company has it. If something did fail, email the recruiter the same day with what happened and a screenshot. A technical failure reported promptly is usually fixable. One found three weeks later often is not. ## When should you follow up after an AI interview? Once the interview has clearly gone through, a simple rule avoids both nagging and waiting forever. 1. **If you were given a date,** wait until two or three working days after it. 2. **If you were given no date,** wait about a week after the interview. 3. **If the platform publishes a timeline,** respect it. For Mercor, that means waiting out its 2 to 4 weeks before asking. 4. **Follow up once,** then once more a week or two later if there is still nothing. After that, stop and put your energy elsewhere. **Who to contact** matters more than people think. Write to the recruiter or the address on your invitation, not the interview platform. The platform usually cannot see your application: Sapia.ai says it has "no visibility of your application before or after Chat Interview". HireVue says the company you applied to, not HireVue, controls your interview data. Mercor is different, because it is the one deciding: its contact is support@mercor.com. ## A follow-up email you can copy Short, specific and easy to answer in one line. Adjust the details and send it from the address you applied with. **Subject:** Following up on my interview for the data analyst role Hello Priya, I completed the AI interview for the data analyst role on 12 September and wanted to check where the process stands. I am still very interested in the role, and I am happy to answer anything else you need. Could you let me know the expected timing for the next step? Thank you, Sam Lee Three things make it work. It names the role and the date, so nobody has to search for you. It asks one question with an easy answer. And it does not apologise, guess at your score or ask whether the AI rejected you, which the recruiter may not be able to answer anyway. ## Should you retake the interview or keep applying while you wait? **Keep applying.** Even Mercor, whose applications you are waiting on, says "you're more than welcome to keep applying to other open roles on the platform to maximize your chances." A single pending application is not a plan. **Retake only to do better, not to be noticed.** A retake does not nudge anyone, and on Mercor it replaces the old attempt. Mercor's help page says "Submitted applications will automatically display your most recent resume (PDF Format), interview, and form", so a rushed retake can replace a better first attempt on every application that uses it.
