# micro1 AI interview questions: what to expect from Zara

Canonical URL: https://career1.ai/micro1-ai-interview-questions · Publisher: Career1 (Answerflix Ltd)

micro1 interviews every candidate with Zara, its own AI recruiter, and records the session so its human recruiters can review the results. The questions are open-ended and spoken, so the thing worth rehearsing is talking through your reasoning out loud rather than memorising answers to a list.

## What micro1 publishes about its AI interview

Career1 is an independent AI interview platform. Career1 is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to micro1, and micro1 and Zara are trademarks of their owner. Every line below comes from micro1's own pages, linked beside it with the date we read it. The questions further down were written by Career1 as typical examples of a spoken technical interview: they are not micro1's question list, which micro1 says differs for every candidate. micro1 does not publish how Zara scores an interview, and Career1 has no way to know.

## Micro1 AI interview questions, by category

micro1 says no two candidates get the same questions, so this is not a leaked list and cannot be one. micro1 publishes its own examples on its interview questions page, linked above. Career1 wrote these as typical examples of a spoken technical interview, each with what a strong answer shows, so you rehearse the conversation rather than the wording.

### Your own experience

- **Walk me through a project you owned from start to finish.** What a strong answer shows: Scope you can genuinely speak to: what the thing does, which parts you built yourself, and the decision you would defend.
- **What is the hardest technical problem you have solved?** What a strong answer shows: Difficulty you can explain rather than assert: what made it hard, what you ruled out, and how you knew the fix worked.
- **Which part of that project would you build differently now?** What a strong answer shows: Judgement after the fact. One specific change and the reason, not a general wish that there had been more time.
- **What was your own contribution to the last thing you shipped?** What a strong answer shows: A clear line between your work and the team's. Nobody can credit a candidate whose whole answer is in the first person plural.
- **Pick a tool on your resume and say why it was right for that job.** What a strong answer shows: That the tools on your resume were decisions rather than defaults. The alternative you considered is the interesting half of the answer.

### Technical depth

- **Explain a trade-off you made between two designs.** What a strong answer shows: Both options described fairly, the constraint that decided it, and what you gave up by choosing the way you did.
- **How would you track down a request that is slow only sometimes?** What a strong answer shows: A method rather than a guess: what you would measure first, how you would narrow it down, and how you would confirm the cause.
- **How do you decide what to test when you cannot test everything?** What a strong answer shows: A sense of risk: which failures would actually hurt, and where a test earns its maintenance cost.
- **How would you keep data consistent across two services that both have to stay up?** What a strong answer shows: That you know the honest answer involves a trade-off, and can name which guarantee you would relax and what that costs.
- **What breaks first if your system gets ten times the traffic?** What a strong answer shows: A specific bottleneck in something you have actually run, and what you would measure before changing anything.
- **How do you review someone else's work, and what do you look at first?** What a strong answer shows: A repeatable order of checks, and the judgement to separate a real problem from a preference about style.

### Scenarios and judgement

- **You are half a day into a task and the approach will not work. What do you do?** What a strong answer shows: Cutting the loss early, telling whoever is affected, and having a second approach rather than pushing on out of stubbornness.
- **You are asked to ship on a date that is not achievable. How do you handle it?** What a strong answer shows: Saying so early with the options laid out, including what could be cut, instead of agreeing and missing it quietly.
- **Something is broken in production right now and the cause is unclear. What are your first three moves?** What a strong answer shows: Stopping the bleeding before finding the cause, and knowing who needs to be told while you work.
- **You inherit code you do not understand and a bug to fix in it. Where do you start?** What a strong answer shows: Reproducing it before changing anything, and a way of building understanding that does not depend on rewriting the thing.
- **Two senior people want opposite things and both are waiting on you. What do you do?** What a strong answer shows: Getting them into the same conversation rather than picking a side privately, and being clear about what you will do until it is settled.
- **You are given a task with unclear requirements and nobody to ask today. What do you do?** What a strong answer shows: Making the smallest reasonable assumption, writing it down, flagging it, and building so that being wrong is cheap.

### Communication

- **Explain what you built to someone outside your field.** What a strong answer shows: Plain words, one comparison that holds, and a check that the other person followed it rather than a monologue.
- **How do you tell someone their approach has a problem?** What a strong answer shows: Raising it directly and early, about the work rather than the person, with an alternative attached.
- **Tell me about a time you had to say you did not know something.** What a strong answer shows: That not knowing was said out loud and followed by finding out, which is what an interviewer is really testing for.
- **How do you keep people informed when a piece of work runs long?** What a strong answer shows: A habit rather than an intention: when you update people, what you tell them, and what they can do with it.
- **Teach me something from your field in two minutes.** What a strong answer shows: Choosing something small enough to finish, and finishing it. Running out of time mid-explanation is the common failure.

## Why a spoken AI interview catches people out

### Nobody nods along

Zara asks and listens, and there is no face reacting to tell you an answer has landed. Answers drift long, or stop three sentences early, in a way they rarely do across a table.

### There is no list to learn

micro1 says no two candidates get the same questions and that Zara adapts to your background. A rehearsed script survives the first question and then has nowhere to go.

### Your reasoning is the thing on show

micro1 says the interview looks at how you think, solve problems and communicate. A correct answer delivered as a shrug gives a reviewer nothing to write down.

## How to prepare

1. **Pick the skill you can hold for seven minutes.** micro1 says an interview runs 20 to 40 minutes depending on how many skills you are evaluated on, and that one skill generally takes about seven minutes. Choose the skill you could talk about for that long with no notes, not the one that sounds most impressive.
2. **Say the reasoning, not just the answer.** Name the approach, say why you chose it over the obvious alternative, then give the example that proves you have done it. The gap between knowing something and saying it cleanly is most of what a spoken interview measures.
3. **Do a full dry run out loud.** Test the microphone, find a quiet room, and answer real questions with your voice. micro1 publishes free practice interviews of its own, and Career1's practice interview is a private eight-minute conversation with written feedback and no score.

## What a strong spoken answer sounds like

### One named approach

Not the textbook definition, but the thing you actually did, called by its name, in the situation where you did it.

### The option you rejected

Saying what else you considered and why you did not choose it is the half of an answer most candidates leave out, and the half that shows judgement rather than recall.

### Your own part, clearly

A reviewer cannot credit a candidate who only says we. Say which piece you built, decided or fixed.

### A finished point

A last sentence that lands, rather than trailing off and waiting to see whether the interviewer wants more.

### Honesty at the edge of what you know

Saying you do not know something, then saying how you would find out, reads better than a confident guess that falls apart under one more question.

### Practice you can repeat

Career1's practice interview is private, has no video and no score, gives written feedback, and you can take one every seven days. It is never shared with companies.

## Questions people ask

### Is Career1 part of micro1?

No. Career1 is an independent AI interview platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to micro1. micro1 and Zara are trademarks of their owner. This page exists because candidates preparing for a spoken AI interview need accurate information about it, checked against micro1's own pages, and somewhere honest to practise out loud.

### How long is the micro1 AI interview?

micro1's library says interviews run between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on how many skills you are evaluated on, and that evaluating one skill generally takes around 7 minutes. micro1's own advice is to choose one core skill or job type to be evaluated on. Its separate free practice interviews are each listed at 18 minutes.

### What questions does the micro1 AI interview ask?

micro1 says every interview is unique: open-ended technical questions for the role you chose, scenario-based questions about how you think, problem-solve and communicate, a coding challenge for technical roles and a human data exercise for annotator roles. Questions are tailored to the skills the role requires, and micro1 publishes examples for five roles and for soft skills on its interview questions page.

### Are these the real micro1 interview questions?

No. micro1 says no two candidates get the same questions, so no list can be the real one. The questions on this page were written by Career1 to be typical of a spoken technical interview, so you can rehearse the shape of the conversation. micro1's candidate terms also require you to keep its interview questions confidential.

### Does the micro1 AI interview record video?

Yes. micro1's candidate terms ask you to consent to it recording your answers, audio, video and platform interactions during the interview, and its privacy policy lists audio and video recordings of AI interview sessions and screen-sharing recordings for technical assessments. Its library says the session is recorded so human recruiters can review results.

### How does micro1 score the interview?

micro1 does not publish how Zara scores an answer, and Career1 has no way to know. micro1 says you get a real-time result showing whether you meet its global certification criteria, its privacy policy mentions an assessment and proctoring score, and it says an overall assessment is reviewed by a human evaluator before a final decision. No scale or pass mark is published.

### What happens if you do not pass the micro1 interview?

micro1's guide says you can request feedback if certification is not achieved. Its candidate privacy policy says that if you are not selected and want to appeal a decision based on its automated technology, you can email privacy@micro1.ai. micro1 does not publish whether, or when, you can take the interview again.

### Can you retake the micro1 AI interview?

micro1 does not publish a retake policy on any of the pages this guide checked, including its interview guide, library and candidate terms, so this page will not guess at one. A 30-day wait, often repeated, does not come from micro1's documentation. If a second attempt matters to you, ask micro1 support before you start.

### What happens to my micro1 interview recording?

micro1's candidate terms say it records your answers, audio, video and platform interactions, may share the video recording, answers, scores and results in line with its privacy policy, and owns the interview and its results. Its privacy policy says your candidate profile may be shared with micro1's clients for certain roles, and links a page for deleting your account.

### Does micro1 use my interview to train AI?

micro1's candidate privacy policy says it may use de-identified information from interviews, including audio, video, transcripts and assessment results, to train and enhance its own machine learning models. It says it does not share your data, de-identified or otherwise, with AI model companies to train their models, and it links a page for opting out of AI training.

### Is micro1 a real company?

micro1, Inc. publishes candidate terms governed by Delaware law and a candidate privacy policy, both updated on 21 July 2026, and says its official emails come from @micro1.ai, @micro1.io or @micro1.co. Check that any interview invitation comes from one of those domains, and read the terms before you start. Career1 does not rate other companies.

### What happens after you pass the micro1 interview?

micro1's library says that once you meet the minimum certification criteria, you complete your profile and verify your identity with a government ID and a selfie through a third-party provider, then join its certified talent pool. Its experts page says certification makes you eligible for AI training projects but does not guarantee immediate placement.

### How can I practise for the micro1 interview?

Out loud, to something that asks a follow-up question. micro1 has free practice interviews of its own, listed at 18 minutes each. Career1's practice interview is free too: about eight minutes by voice, private, no video, no score, and written feedback afterwards, once every seven days. Practice interviews are never shared with companies.

### Is Career1's practice interview the same as getting vetted?

No, and the difference matters. Practice is private, repeatable weekly, has no score and is never shown to a company. Career1's vetting interview is a separate single attempt with no retakes: it is recorded, scored, and becomes a profile hiring companies can search, which you can hide from your dashboard at any time.
