# Your bullets describe duties. They should show evidence.

Paste the bullet points you are unsure about, one per line. You get each one rewritten, plus the reason the original was weak.

## What makes a good resume bullet point?

A strong resume bullet point names what you did, how you did it, and what changed as a result, with a number where there is one. Career1's free resume bullet points generator rewrites the bullets you paste that way, keeps your facts, never invents a metric, and tells you which figure to find when a bullet has no outcome.

A resume can have every keyword in the posting and still read as weak, because every bullet describes a responsibility rather than a result. 'Responsible for the payments service' tells a reader what you were assigned. It says nothing about whether you were any good at it.

The third part, what changed, is the one people leave out and the one a hiring manager reads for. The rewrite keeps your facts, and its note under each bullet says what made the original weak.

## What the tool asks for

- **Your bullet points** (required): One per line. Six or fewer works best.
- **Role you are targeting**: Optional. The rewrite aims at this role.

## Before and after, by role

Illustrative examples: the people and figures are invented to show the pattern. Use your own.

### Software engineer

- **Before:** Responsible for maintaining the payments service.
- **After:** Added idempotency keys to the payments service, ending about 40 duplicate charges a month.

A duty becomes a change, with the method and the result.

### Registered nurse

- **Before:** Provided patient care on a busy surgical ward.
- **After:** Cared for six to eight post-operative patients a shift on a 28-bed ward; wrote the discharge checklist the ward now uses.

Scale a reader can picture, and one contribution that is yours.

### Customer support

- **Before:** Handled customer tickets and inquiries.
- **After:** Resolved about 60 tickets a day across email and chat, and wrote 15 help articles for the most repeated questions.

Volume, channels, and a fix that reduced future work.

### Sales

- **Before:** Exceeded sales targets.
- **After:** Closed $780K in new annual contracts in 2025, 118% of quota, mostly from outbound to logistics companies.

"Exceeded" invites the question by how much. This answers it.

### Teacher

- **Before:** Taught maths to secondary students.
- **After:** Taught maths to five classes of 30 and rebuilt revision lessons around past papers; pass rates rose from 71% to 84%.

The method is concrete and the outcome is one a school tracks.

## Common mistakes

### Inventing numbers.

An interviewer will ask how you measured it. An honest "about 40 a month" beats a precise figure you cannot explain.

### Tools with nothing done with them.

"Python, SQL, Tableau" in a bullet is a skills list in disguise. Say what you used them for.

### A team result written as yours.

"Increased revenue 30%" invites the question of what you did. Name your part.

### "Responsible for" and "helped with".

Both describe an assignment. Start with the verb for what you actually did.

## How to use the generator well

1. Paste the bullets from one role, six or fewer, one per line.
2. Add the role you are targeting, so the rewrite aims at it.
3. Where a note names a missing number, find it and run the bullet again.
4. Check every rewrite is true before it goes on your resume.

## Questions people ask

### Will it invent numbers for me?

No, and that matters more than it sounds. An invented metric falls apart in the first interview where someone asks how you measured it. Where a bullet has no outcome, it tells you exactly which figure to go and find.

### How many bullets should I paste at once?

Six or fewer. The rewrite is better when it can see the pattern across a few bullets from the same role, and worse when it is handed an entire resume at once.

### How many bullet points should each job have?

There is no fixed rule. Recent, relevant roles earn more, often three to six. Older roles can shrink to one or two lines that show the most relevant result.

### Do these bullets get past an applicant tracking system?

An ATS stores and parses your resume, and the employer sets what it filters on; the quality of your writing is not one of those settings. Strong bullets are for the person who reads the resume. To check a resume against a posting, use the [ATS resume checker](https://career1.ai/tools/resume-checker).
