# Willo video interview questions: timing, retakes and how to prepare

A Willo video interview is recorded on your own: questions appear on screen and you answer by video or audio, with no interviewer present. Willo's candidate guide says each answer gets between one and five minutes, and that once you answer the first question you have 12 hours to submit the whole interview. The employer sets the questions and the retakes.

Each employer writes its own Willo questions and sets the timings, so this is not a leaked list. Career1 wrote these as typical questions for a recorded interview, including the kind of task Willo's help for employers describes, each with what a strong answer shows.

### About you

- **Tell us about yourself and why you applied.** What a strong answer shows: Ninety seconds with a shape: what you do now, the experience that fits this role, and the specific reason you applied. The reason is what most answers leave out.
- **What are you studying or working on at the moment?** What a strong answer shows: Genuine interest and something concrete you are doing, linked briefly to why it matters for this job.
- **What is one strength you would bring to this team?** What a strong answer shows: One strength, not five, with a short example of it making a difference. A single proven claim beats a list.
- **What is something you are working to get better at?** What a strong answer shows: A real development area, what you are doing about it, and progress you can point to, rather than a strength in disguise.

### Your experience

- **Tell us about the most relevant experience you have for this role.** What a strong answer shows: A clear match between one experience and the job advert, with what you did and what it achieved.
- **Describe a responsibility you were trusted with.** What a strong answer shows: Why you were trusted with it, how you handled it, and what the result was for the people relying on you.
- **Tell us about something you improved in a previous role or project.** What a strong answer shows: What was not working, what you changed, and the before and after, with a number if you have one.
- **What did you learn from a job that had nothing to do with your career plans?** What a strong answer shows: Something transferable, named specifically, such as handling pressure, money or members of the public.

### Behavioural

- **Tell us about a time you solved a problem with limited resources.** What a strong answer shows: Resourcefulness: what was missing, the alternative you found, and whether it worked.
- **Describe a time you had to deliver bad news.** What a strong answer shows: Doing it promptly and honestly, with a plan attached, and how the other person took it.
- **Tell us about a time you juggled study, work or family commitments.** What a strong answer shows: A way of setting priorities, one hard trade-off you made, and evidence the important things still got done.
- **Describe a decision you made without all the information you wanted.** What a strong answer shows: How you judged the risk, the assumption you made, and how you would have noticed if you were wrong.

### Customers and teamwork

- **How would you make a first-time customer feel welcome?** What a strong answer shows: Concrete things you would actually do, drawn from an example if you have one, rather than a promise of great service.
- **Tell us about a time you helped a group reach an agreement.** What a strong answer shows: Listening to each side, finding common ground, and a decision everyone could live with.
- **What would you do if a colleague was not pulling their weight?** What a strong answer shows: Speaking to them directly and kindly first, understanding why, and involving a manager only if it carried on.
- **Describe the best team you have been part of and your role in it.** What a strong answer shows: What made it work, specifically, and what you contributed to that rather than simply benefited from.

### Tasks some employers set

- **Role-play: a customer calls to say their order is late. Respond as you would on the call.** What a strong answer shows: Acknowledging the problem, apologising once, and giving a specific next step and a time you will follow up. Tone matters as much as words in a recorded role-play.
- **Read this short paragraph and summarise it in your own words.** What a strong answer shows: The main point first, then the one or two details that matter, in plain language and within the time.
- **Explain something you know well as if to a new colleague.** What a strong answer shows: A clear structure, one simple example, and a check of understanding at the end, even though nobody can answer a recording.
- **Pitch this product to us in one minute.** What a strong answer shows: Who it is for, the one problem it solves, and a reason to act now. Finishing inside the minute is part of the task.

## Why Willo's timing catches people out

### Two different clocks

Willo has an answer time on each recorded question and, on some questions, a separate Time to answer that counts up. They behave differently, and mixing them up is how people panic mid-answer.

### Retakes are not free

Willo says the time recorded on a Time to answer question includes any retakes, so the employer sees how long the whole question took, not just your final take.

### The 12-hour window starts early

Willo's candidate guide says the full interview must be submitted within 12 hours of answering the first question. Opening it on a busy evening can leave you finishing in a hurry.

## How to prepare

1. **Practise with the sample question first.** Willo offers a practice question before the real ones and says no data is saved in practice mode. Use it to check sound, light and framing, and to see how the timer looks.
2. **Close every other tab and app.** Willo's candidate guide says to close all other tabs and applications or you will not be able to complete your interview. Do it before you start, along with anything else using your camera or microphone.
3. **Start only when you can finish.** Because the 12-hour window starts with your first answer, begin when you have an uninterrupted hour. Aim for about ninety seconds an answer: Willo says the average answer on its platform is one and a half minutes.

### Starts with the answer

The first sentence answers the question and the example follows. On a count-up timer, a slow wind-up shows.

### Uses one example well

One real situation, your part in it and the result, told in about ninety seconds, beats three examples squeezed into five minutes.

### Stops early rather than late

Willo says you can stop the recording before the time is up. A finished point with time left reads as confidence.

### Spends retakes on real problems

Re-record for a lost thread or bad sound, not for polish. On a Time to answer question every retake adds to the time the employer sees.

### Sounds clear on playback

Willo asks you to play each answer back at the end and re-record if you cannot hear yourself clearly. Check the first one before you go on.

The employer writes them, so they vary by company and role. Most are the questions a first interview would ask: about you, your experience, a time you handled something, and why you want the job. ### How long do you get to answer a Willo interview question?
