The right HireVue alternative for a hiring team depends on which part of HireVue you are replacing. For recorded one-way video, Spark Hire, Willo and Hireflix publish prices and sell self-serve. For spoken AI interviews, InterviewFlowAI, Ribbon, Alex and Career1 are options. For typed chat interviews, Sapia.ai. HireVue itself publishes no prices.
What are you replacing HireVue for?
HireVue is not one product. Its own site lists an AI Interviewer, video interviewing both on demand and live, and assessments. So "an alternative to HireVue" means an alternative to one of those, and the honest first step is naming which.
- The recorded, one-way interview. Candidates answer set questions on camera in their own time. One-way video tools replace this most directly.
- The AI Interviewer. A two-way conversation run by AI. Conversational AI interviewers replace this.
- Live interviews and scheduling. Tools that host and book interviews between people.
- Assessments. Skill, cognitive and game-based tests, which a conversation does not replace.
This page is written by Career1, which is one of the alternatives below, so here is where it is the wrong answer before anything else: if you need live video interviews, assessments or tests, an ATS integration, interviews in a language other than English, more than 150 interviews a month, SAML single sign-on, or a built-in non-AI path for candidates who decline the AI interview, Career1 does not do it. If you are a candidate preparing for a HireVue interview, this page is not for you; HireVue interview questions is.
What does HireVue offer, in its own words?
Before comparing anything, it is worth knowing what HireVue says it does today, because much of what is written about it describes an older product. Every statement below is from a hirevue.com page opened on 28 September 2026.

| What | HireVue's own words | Source |
|---|---|---|
| AI Interviewer | "AI agents ask and record candidate responses, including probing follow-up questions, in a natural two-way conversation." | AI Interviewer page |
| Who decides | "AI Informs. Humans decide." and "Recruiters always make the final call" | AI Interviewer page |
| Candidate options | "Candidates can opt out", with "Accommodation requests & AI opt out paths" | AI Interviewer page |
| Languages | "French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and More" | AI Interviewer page |
| Video interviewing | On-demand "One-way asynchronous interviewing", and live interviews in "Hirevue, Zoom, Teams, or Webex" | Video interviewing page |
| Length of a video assessment | "Most video-based assessments include between five and eight questions." | Candidate FAQ |
| What is scored | "Hirevue video assessments don't use facial analysis, video, or audio data to evaluate candidates. Instead, we analyze only the transcript of your responses" | AI in hiring |
| When that changed | On 12 January 2021 HireVue wrote that it "made the decision to not use any visual analysis in our pre-hire algorithms going forward" | HireVue blog |
| Retakes | Its AI-scored interviews "allow candidates multiple attempts to answer each question" | AI Explainability Statement |
| Price | No figures. The pricing page offers "Request Demo" and "Calculate your ROI", and says "Hirevue is free for candidates" | Pricing page |
Two consequences for anyone shopping for an alternative. First, if your reason for leaving is that recorded interviews cannot ask follow-up questions, HireVue now sells a product that does; compare against that, not against its one-way video. Second, if your reason is that HireVue reads faces, its own pages say its video assessments have not done so since 2021. The widely repeated claim is out of date, and switching vendors will not change that part.
How should you compare HireVue alternatives?
Settle the criteria before looking at vendors, or the first good demo becomes the criteria. These are the ones that separate the tools below.
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Criterion | Why it matters | How to test it |
|---|---|---|
| Format | One-way video, a spoken conversation and a typed chat produce different evidence | Take the candidate's side of each on a phone |
| Follow-up questions | A fixed list gets rehearsed answers; a follow-up tests them | Give one vague answer and see whether it is questioned |
| What is scored | Answer content is defensible; appearance and tone are the claims the industry retreated from | Ask in writing what inputs the score uses |
| Evidence behind a score | A number with no transcript cannot be checked or explained to a candidate | Pick two claims in a sample report and find them in the transcript |
| Who decides | Automatic rejection makes the tool the decision-maker | Ask whether anything moves or rejects a candidate without a person |
| Candidate experience | Length, device, languages and an alternative path decide who drops out | Time it; check the languages and the opt-out |
| Integrations | Results that never reach your ATS get copied by hand | Ask which ATS it syncs with, both ways |
| Pricing | A published price can be compared; a quote cannot until you have it | Price your real monthly volume, and your busiest month |
The fuller buyer's checklist, including data retention, is in how to evaluate an AI interview platform, and every published price in this market is compared in AI interview software pricing.
Which HireVue alternatives are there, by type?
Each row describes the vendor from its own site, opened on 28 September 2026. This is not a ranking; the order follows the three types. Career1 is not affiliated with any company named here.

Which one-way video tools replace HireVue's video interviews?
If what you use HireVue for is the recorded first round, these replace it most directly, and all four print a price.
- Spark Hire sells video interviewing with "Unlimited live and one-way video interviews", AI that can "Transcribe interviews in 50+ languages" and "Auto-summarize candidate responses", and "40+ ATS integrations". Its homepage describes it as hiring software "Built for lean HR teams" that also includes an ATS. Monthly plans are limited to 5 jobs and 5 users; annual plans are unlimited, and pricing "varies by company size".
- Willo says candidates complete their assessment "in their own time, on any device", describes the experience as "WCAG-compliant", and lists "18+ languages". It pitches shortlisting "without handing decisions over to AI". Its pricing has a pay-as-you-go Lite plan per live role and an annual Enterprise plan.
- Hireflix prices by company size with unlimited seats, positions and responses, and lists "Custom thinking and answering times per question", "Custom retakes per question" and "Automatic Video Transcriptions".
- Truffle combines resume screening, one-way interviews and assessments for small teams, and says nothing is auto-rejected.
What none of these does, by its own description, is hold a two-way conversation. If follow-up questions are the reason you are looking, read the next section.
Which conversational AI interviewers compete with HireVue's AI Interviewer?
These hold the interview themselves, by voice and sometimes video, and adapt to the answers. HireVue's own AI Interviewer is in this category too, which makes it the fairest comparison.
- InterviewFlowAI runs "structured phone and video interviews with natural follow-up questions shaped by every candidate response", and publishes per-credit pricing from $59 a month.
- Ribbon describes "Real two-way conversations that adapt in real time", on any phone, with "follow-ups that actually make sense", and says it "Syncs with 60+ ATS out of the box". Plans start at $499 a month billed annually on its pricing page.
- Alex, formerly Apriora, "conducts personalized interviews with each candidate" across phone, video, SMS and WhatsApp, and lists 33+ officially supported ATS integrations. It publishes no price.
- Interviewer.ai offers "Conversational AI Avatar Interviews" with "Adaptive Follow-up Questions" on its Professional plan at $399 a month, alongside one-way video on Essential.
- Career1 runs a spoken interview in the browser for about eight minutes, covered in the section after next.
Ask each the questions in the criteria table, and ask HireVue the same ones. A fair comparison here is AI Interviewer against AI interviewer, on your own role.
Which chat and text tools are HireVue alternatives?
For high-volume frontline hiring, some teams replace video altogether with text.
- Sapia.ai runs a typed interview: "Chat Interview is a text-based interview and assessment", candidates get "between 5-7 text-based questions", and "There is no video recording. There is no camera used." Its pricing page says it charges per hire.
- Paradox is built around an assistant it calls Olivia, which handles screening questions "through chat or text" and interview scheduling. It publishes no price.
Text removes the camera, which some candidates strongly prefer, and loses the spoken answer, which some roles need. For a customer-facing role where speaking is the job, that trade matters.
Where does Career1 fit, and where does it not?
Career1 replaces the first-round interview. Applying to a job starts it: the AI interviewer speaks with each applicant in the browser, on a laptop or a phone, for about eight minutes, with questions from the role and the applicant's resume and a follow-up when an answer is thin. Candidates take it at any hour, as with one-way video, but somebody is listening. Your team gets a ranked shortlist with, for each applicant, a match score, a recommendation, scored sections with written reasoning, a ledger of which claimed skills were demonstrated, risks, the transcript and the recording. The report is written from the transcript, the resume and the job; the video is kept for people to watch and is not analysed for faces or expressions. There is a complete sample interview report to judge it by.
Its prices are published: a free plan of 2 interviews a month with no card, then $49, $99 or $199 a month for 25, 60 or 150 interviews, billed monthly, on the pricing page. The scores are decision support; your team decides, and Career1 rejects nobody.
Where it does not fit, compared with HireVue in particular:
- Live interviews and scheduling. Career1 does not host live interviews itself. With Google Calendar connected, a team can book a follow-up from a candidate's report, which sends an invitation with a Google Meet link; there is no scheduling of interview panels or interviewer availability.
- Assessments. No skill, cognitive, coding or game-based tests.
- ATS integration. Career1 does not sync with any applicant tracking system.
- Languages. English only at the time of writing, where HireVue lists several.
- Volume. At most 150 interviews a month, with no overage.
- Enterprise controls. No SAML single sign-on, and no built-in non-AI path for a candidate who declines the AI interview; you would arrange that yourself.
- References and audits. Career1 is new; it cannot offer customer references or an independent bias audit yet.
What this comparison leaves out, and why
- Ratings and review counts. Review sites are where buyers compare reputations, and we did not audit them for this page, so we quote none of them.
- Prices nobody publishes. Annual figures for HireVue appear on other companies' pages. None appears on HireVue's, so none appears here; the reliable number is the quote HireVue sends you.
- Vendors' own success statistics, HireVue's included. They are claims about their customers, not measurements you can check.
- micro1 and Mercor. Neither offers an AI interviewer to hiring teams on its homepage today. micro1's homepage reads "Data lab to train frontier models & evaluate agents", and Mercor's says it "is organizing human intelligence to power the AI economy".
- A winner. The right choice depends on which part of HireVue you are replacing, and the criteria above decide it better than any list.

Questions people ask
What is the best HireVue alternative?
There is no single best one, because HireVue is several products. To replace its recorded one-way video, look at Spark Hire, Willo or Hireflix. To replace its AI Interviewer, look at conversational tools such as InterviewFlowAI, Ribbon, Alex or Career1. For typed interviews in high-volume hiring, Sapia.ai. Decide which part you are replacing, then compare on your own role.
How much does HireVue cost?
HireVue does not publish its prices. Its pricing page, checked on 28 September 2026, shows no plans or figures, only a demo request, an ROI calculator and the statement that HireVue is free for candidates. Figures for HireVue printed on other companies' pages cannot be traced to HireVue, so the reliable number is the quote it gives you for your volume.
Is HireVue expensive?
Nobody outside a sales conversation can say, because HireVue publishes no price and quotes each customer. What you can do is compare its quote with published alternatives: Hireflix from $75 a month billed yearly, Spark Hire from $249 a month billed annually, or Career1 from free to $199 a month, each for a different kind of interview.
Does HireVue have an AI interviewer?
Yes. HireVue's AI Interviewer page says AI agents ask and record candidate responses, including probing follow-up questions, in a natural two-way conversation, and that recruiters always make the final call. So if follow-up questions are why you are leaving HireVue, compare its AI Interviewer with the alternatives, not its one-way video.
Does HireVue use facial analysis?
Not according to HireVue. Its AI in hiring page says its video assessments do not use facial analysis, video or audio data to evaluate candidates and analyse only the transcript. HireVue announced on 12 January 2021 that it would not use visual analysis in its pre-hire algorithms going forward. Claims that it scores faces describe the product before that date.
What is a cheaper alternative to HireVue?
Cheaper cannot be proven against a price HireVue does not publish, but several alternatives print theirs. Hireflix starts at $75 a month billed yearly for one-way video, Truffle at $49 a month, InterviewFlowAI at $59 a month for conversational interviews, and Career1 has a free plan, then $49 to $199 a month. Get HireVue's quote, then compare at your real volume.
What is the difference between HireVue and Spark Hire?
By their own pages, Spark Hire sells one-way and live video interviews with AI summaries and an applicant tracking system for lean HR teams, at published prices from $249 a month billed annually. HireVue sells an AI Interviewer, on-demand and live video interviewing and assessments, describes its platform as built for mid-market to enterprise hiring, and publishes no prices.
Is there a HireVue alternative for small businesses?
Yes. Several tools publish self-serve prices sized for small teams: Hireflix prices for companies under 50 employees, Spark Hire describes itself as built for lean HR teams, Truffle targets small teams doing high-volume hiring, and Career1 has a free plan of two interviews a month with no card. None needs a sales call to start.
Which HireVue alternatives use conversational AI?
InterviewFlowAI, Ribbon, Interviewer.ai on its Professional plan and Career1 each say their AI asks follow-up questions, and HireVue's own AI Interviewer says the same. Alex and Goodfit also run AI-led voice interviews. They differ in channel, length, languages, integrations and whether they publish a price, so test each on one of your own roles.
Is Career1 a HireVue alternative?
For the first-round interview, yes: every applicant gets a spoken AI interview of about eight minutes with follow-up questions, and your team gets a ranked shortlist with transcripts and recordings. It is not an alternative for live interviews, assessments, ATS integration, interviews in languages other than English, or volumes above 150 interviews a month.
Do HireVue alternatives integrate with an ATS?
Many do, by their own pages: Spark Hire lists 40+ ATS integrations, Ribbon says it syncs with 60+ ATS, Alex lists 33+ supported integrations, and Hireflix names Greenhouse, Lever, Workable and others. Career1 does not sync with any ATS at the time of writing, which matters if your recruiters work entirely inside one.
How do you switch from HireVue to another tool?
Run the alternative on one live role before cancelling anything, and read the reports side by side with what HireVue gave you. Check your HireVue contract term and export what you need to keep: HireVue says it stores candidate data for the retention period your company chose. Then tell candidates plainly what the new interview involves.
Try it on a real role, free
Post a role and every applicant gets an eight-minute spoken interview in the browser, with no scheduling. You get a score, strengths, risks, a recommendation, the transcript and the recording for each one.
The free plan vets two candidates a month and needs no card. Candidates never pay.
