Why Willo's timing catches people out
Two different clocks
Willo has an answer time on each recorded question and, on some questions, a separate Time to answer that counts up. They behave differently, and mixing them up is how people panic mid-answer.
Retakes are not free
Willo says the time recorded on a Time to answer question includes any retakes, so the employer sees how long the whole question took, not just your final take.
The 12-hour window starts early
Willo's candidate guide says the full interview must be submitted within 12 hours of answering the first question. Opening it on a busy evening can leave you finishing in a hurry.

Practise with the sample question first
Willo offers a practice question before the real ones and says no data is saved in practice mode. Use it to check sound, light and framing, and to see how the timer looks.

Close every other tab and app
Willo's candidate guide says to close all other tabs and applications or you will not be able to complete your interview. Do it before you start, along with anything else using your camera or microphone.

Start only when you can finish
Because the 12-hour window starts with your first answer, begin when you have an uninterrupted hour. Aim for about ninety seconds an answer: Willo says the average answer on its platform is one and a half minutes.
What a strong recorded answer does on Willo
- Starts with the answer
- The first sentence answers the question and the example follows. On a count-up timer, a slow wind-up shows.
- Uses one example well
- One real situation, your part in it and the result, told in about ninety seconds, beats three examples squeezed into five minutes.
- Stops early rather than late
- Willo says you can stop the recording before the time is up. A finished point with time left reads as confidence.
- Spends retakes on real problems
- Re-record for a lost thread or bad sound, not for polish. On a Time to answer question every retake adds to the time the employer sees.
- Sounds clear on playback
- Willo asks you to play each answer back at the end and re-record if you cannot hear yourself clearly. Check the first one before you go on.

Most confusion about Willo comes from two settings that sound alike. Both are described in Willo's own help centre.
The answer time on a recorded question
Video and audio questions have an answer time of between one and five minutes, shown below the record button. It limits the recording itself: you answer within it, and you can stop before it runs out.
Time to answer
Some questions also carry a Time to answer, which the employer sets in hours and minutes. Willo calls it a guard rail: the timer counts up, you are not blocked if you go over, and the employer sees how long you took, with a colour for over or under.
Why retakes count on a Time to answer question
Willo says the time recorded includes the time taken to answer the question and any retakes. Every re-record adds to the number the employer sees, so spend retakes on real problems, such as lost sound, rather than on polish.
What refreshing the page does
If you were invited by email, SMS or an applicant tracking system, Willo says restarting the assessment, closing the browser or refreshing the page does not stop a Time to answer timer.

What transfers from spoken practice, and what does not
Career1's practice interview is spoken, like a Willo answer, but it has no camera and it talks back. That makes it good for some of what a recorded interview needs and no help with the rest.
What transfers
Answering out loud in complete sentences, one example per answer, the result at the end, and stopping when you are done. A Willo interview asks no follow-up, so the first answer has to stand on its own, which is exactly what practice with follow-ups trains.
What does not
The camera, the count-up clock and the choice of when to spend a retake. Career1's practice has no video. Use Willo's own practice question for the camera, and time two answers on your phone to learn what ninety seconds feels like.
How to use both
Rehearse the stories out loud first, then do one camera run. Career1's practice interview is private, has no video and no score, gives written feedback, and you can take one every seven days. It is never shared with companies, and it has no connection to any Willo interview.
What Willo's documentation does not say
Each of these is a question candidates ask. Each answer is what Willo's own pages support, and no more.
What Willo Insights analyses
Willo says Insights evaluates candidates against criteria the employer defines and ranks them by alignment, where the employer has switched it on. It does not publish whether it analyses your words, your voice or the picture, or any pass mark, and Career1 has no way to know.
Whether a person watches every video
Willo says the hiring organisation makes all hiring decisions and that AI outputs assist rather than replace human review. It does not say whether every video is watched in full.
Whether you can redo the whole interview
Willo publishes per-question retakes and the 12-hour window, but no rule for starting again after you submit. That is the employer's decision, so ask them.
When you will hear back
Willo publishes no timeline, because the employer runs the process. At the end of the interview you may be asked for your availability over the next five working days, which helps the employer arrange a follow-up.

What questions does a Willo video interview ask?
The employer writes them, so they vary by company and role. Most are the questions a first interview would ask: about you, your experience, a time you handled something, and why you want the job. How long do you get to answer a Willo interview question?

Can I do a Willo interview on my phone?
Yes. Willo says an iOS or Android smartphone with a working front camera and microphone works, and that using one puts you at no disadvantage. Its guide recommends the latest Chrome and at least 5 Mbps upload and download. Stand the phone on a steady surface and remove any case that might muffle the microphone.
How long does Willo keep my video interview?
The employer decides, as the organisation responsible for your data.
